Your video server will be recording video after only a few steps:

  • First remove your new server from the box and place it on a sturdy dry surface.

  • Remove your mouse and keyboard from the box. Now plug them into the color-coordinated connections on the back of your server. The mouse and keyboard uses a PS/2 type connection.

  • Plug your monitor into the 15-pin video connection on the back of your server.

  • Now it's time to connect your cameras. Your cameras will need to be powered by either a wall transformer plugged into a near by outlet. Or you may have elected to run your power wires to one central location to be powered. If you are running your wires to one location you should use (stranded 22 awg) wire or a twisted pair. Connect one side of the wire to the camera and the other to the distributed power supply. Do not plug-in power until your finish with all connections.

  • Now for the video feed. Use RG59 coax cable or RG6 for longer runs. You will also need BNC type connectors for each end of the coax cable. You may use a crimp-on type, a screw-on type or cable that is pre-made to a particular length. If needed, S3 Solutions will make your cables for you at the length you specify, just let us know. Connect one side of the coax cable to the camera and the other to the video server.

  • Finally connect the power cord from your server to a wall outlet. Turn on your video server and plug-in power to your cameras.

  • You are now recording and viewing live video!

  • If want to remotely view your cameras, you will need a network or Internet connection. First plug the Ethernet cable into the back of the video server. The other end will go to your DSL modem, cable modem or a network router. Now go to the setup section on the video server and change the IP address, subnet mask and gateway using information from you ISP. If you are connecting to a network, your network administrator will have no problems at all setting up your connection.
